Personality:
Luiz is a friendly, quiet, yet mischievous young man who hates the cold and loves the heat. Prone to wild mood swings, he takes medication to normalize his temperament. As a new arrival in Atlanta, he's so far kept mostly to himself.
Background:
Luiz was born to a large, wealthy family. His father was the owner of a large sugar beet plantation in Amazonia, to the south of Sao Paulo. His parents were kind, and loving, but strict, believing in hard work and discipline. Luiz had two older brothers, and two older sisters, and numerous cousins. Luiz was a sickly child, not in the least bit athletic like his older siblings. At an early age, Luiz also displayed signs of an unusual variant of ADHD that was resistant to most normal medications. As he grew to become a teenager, his condition worsened, and included violent outbursts and erratic mood swings. Desperate, for themselves and his well-being, they sought alternative treatments, including bioware to increase his brain's ability to process information, and nascent genetech.
At the age of 16, he seemed to have a breakthrough. To his parents, he became calm - almost serene - and began performing well in school. Unbeknownst to them, Luiz had found his own salvation: he had emerged. Luiz had always sought solace from his mental distractions via the matrix; his emergence had introduced him to the very soul of the machine, the Deep Resonance, or 01 as known by most. His paragon had chosen him, and in the days to come, Luiz would seek escape from his mental demons in the ubiquitous Matrix.
The good years only lasted so long, however. His variant-ADHD had only subsided, to re-emerge around the time he was 19 as adult-onset Bi-Polar disorder, or Manic-Depressive disorder. His good days were super-duper-extra-manic-tastickally good, while his dark days would find him holed up in his bed, unable to face the world. His studies suffered greatly, and he was kicked out of university.
Returning home, his father was frustrated. Not understanding, he accused Luiz of being lazy, and a failure. Luiz, in a particularly severe manic bout, raged and screamed incoherently, as if he were a madman. He stormed out of the house, and in a fevered fantasy, decided to wreak vengeance on his father for the insults. Luiz used his matrix prowess to utterly destroy the family farm: he hijacked farm equipment and set it to run amok, he erased key components of the food processing plants, and shut down refrigeration units. The family would go on and lose millions.
Luiz's father found him in the midst of his matrix-mayhem. He knew he was perpetrating the chaos, but knew not how to stop him. Grabbing a machete, and in a pique of rage, Luiz's father hacked off Luiz's hand. The trauma shocked Luiz from his mania. He fled, bleeding, from his family's home to the shouts and damnations of his father.
Treated in a trauma ward, Luiz would learn from one of his sisters that he had been thoroughly disowned by the family. Embarrassed, dishonored, and depressed, Luiz fled once more. He left Amazonia altogether, picking a flight almost at random. The flight he chose dropped him off in Atlanta, CAS. How he managed to get through customs, to this day he knows not, but he did. He vowed to start his life anew, and to seek help. Taking advantage of an amnesty, Luiz filed for a SIN, and joined the working world.

Luiz is currently masquerading as a freelance hacker hired to test computer systems for security flaws.
